Ethan Pipher - 03:47 EST

Hello fine folks! It looks like Montok The Destroyer and I are actually on a pretty good schedule. This is the fourth column in a row that we've been successfully rotating! Remember that you can e-mail either one of us specifically or just
e-mail the QnA mailbox and take your chances with who will answer/respond to your questions/letters!
Anyway, some news: The Journey to Castle Lusipurr documentary will no longer be coming to RPGamer.com. It is still in production, but Lusipurr has left staff long enough ago to make its appearance on this site a little strange. If you are interested, I will gladly give you all the link when it finds a place on the internet.
Onto the letters!

Obligitory IRC explaination for participation in "Rapid Fire: The IRCorner"
If you're not familiar with IRC but would like to be a part of the section, just head over to RPGamer's chat applet. If that confuses you as well, we have a handy FAQ for your convenience. You can leave a private message for me if I'm not responding. I'll consider all appropriate questions

The Letters
In Which Hugh Jackman Somehow Gets a Nod

Hey Alternating Qna Host!

Ethan

Hey-o! And you lucked out too. You got the better, less Montoky one.

When did RPG's start putting a disclaimer before the title screen? Both of the last two I played (Persona 4 and Infinite Undiscovery) had them. Is their some new law that requires this now and should I expect to see them on all new games in the future??

Ethan

I need more information, Pip! What sort of disclaimer? In which fashion?
I didn't think video games ever stopped showing a disclaimer before the title screen in an effort to save companies from seizure lawsuits. But perhaps it is a region matter. Maybe it has always been required in Canada but it is a new thing in your state or area. I haven't the foggiest, I'm just making kife up now. Just like I just made up the word "kife".

-Pip

P.S. In answer to Ethos hot question, I find Hugh Jackman to be very hot.

Ethan

Really? Maybe I've been tainted by Dr. Cox's rants on Scrubs, but I'm lukewarm on Hugh Jackman. It could have also been the atrocity that was The Fountain. Until next time, Pip!

In Which Skies Gets Ethos Too Excited

Valorous Ethos, good tidings be to you whenever this letter receives your attention.

Ethan

Thank you! The whenever is now! My attention is now! Hit me with all you got, Jumes!

Your feelings on the EGM rumor of several months past that Sega is, in fact, developing a Skies of Arcadia sequel?

Ethan

OH MY GOD I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THAT RUMOUR! Did you know that faint rumours of a Skies of Arcadia sequel is what brought me to RPGamer in the first place? I had just finished playing the game for the second or third time and I was almost desperately scouring the internet for signs of a follow-up. This led me to a rumour news story on RPGamer, and a hiring call on the front page. Anyway, that game rocks and I would kill for a sequel. Literally. You give me a name, SEGA, and they will disappear.

How does the demise of EGM sit with you?

Ethan

Can't say it really affects me to be honest. Never really picked up the magazine, and I'm typically not a fan of 1up (shock and horror). I suppose I DID pick one issue up when I was about 12 years old because it happened to showcase Diddy Kong Racing, but I treasure it because it had a very early preview of Ocarina of Time while it was still called Zelda64 and the screenshots included Link approaching the Triforce (this was the slightly different Canadian Issue featuring Yoshi's story as well if any of you are confused). Either case, it's not fun to hear of a piece of gaming history fall away, so I am a little saddened.

Who is more attractive, Aika or Fina?

Ethan

Aika absolutely. That one scene in which she lets her hair down would seal the deal if it wasn't already sealed (it was).

What upcoming games will you under no circumstances deign to review?

Ethan

Dokapon Journey. Dokapon Journey. Dokapon Journey. Dokapon Journey. Dokapon Journey. Dokapon Journey.

What are the ugliest RPG graphics you have ever seen?

Ethan

I was tempted to just repeat "Dokapon Kingdom" over and over again, but I won't. I don't think any RPG's graphics have ever repulsed me. I don't think I liked Star Ocean: The Second Story's too much, but I barely played that game.

Which older RPGs have you never played but always longed to?

Ethan

This is a half cop-out, but I have played about half of both FFV and FFVI, and I long to play FFV to the end because I really liked it quite a bit more than what I played of FFVI (shock and horror).

I rather like being staff. As you no doubt are unsurprised to hear.
JuMeSyn

Ethan

I am not surprised in the least, you are right. But it's great to have you around, and I hope your new staff status doesn't stop these lists of questions, because they are the perfect format for my perfect world of QnA columns. Until next time!

Rapid Fire: The IRCorner

[15:09] @noodle> will there ever be a kirby rpg?

Ethan

Oh god, I hope so. I'm not even joking. I think the Kirby universe would lend itself well to a fun, charming RPG. Not to mention that the franchise hasn't exactly shone in the past little while. I think a genre shift could do it some good!

[15:42] @Unpetitmax> What do you think about drinking and games?

Ethan

I didn't start drinking until last year. It's okay. Games are sweet.

[17:01] @sabin> How much would COULD a woodchuck chuck?

Ethan

Oh god, Sabin, you would. I don't freaking know. Does anybody even know what a woodchuck is? Do they really exist?

[15:05] Stage> The Term BIO BREAK has become common in all MMOs, but how come people keep trying to make its origins seem more complex than it is? After all it did originate as a way to break the language barrier between american and japanese players using the built in translator function of ffxi using the spells [Bio] and [Break]...

Ethan

Dunno, Stage. I don't play MMOs. But people just like to over-complicate as a general fault. I mean look at Tales of Vesperia. It's a fun game, but it's about 20 hours longer than it needs to be. Complicated does not a good plot make!

[17:03] @sabin> Will the Fallout boy ever grow to be a Fallout man?

Ethan

No.

IN CLOSING

Well there you go, folks. I don't have much to say at this point. Except that you should go buy Flower and I have to go play foosball. It's Montok's turn next week, so I'll see you in two, fools!
