Michael "Macstorm" Cunningham
STAFF EDITORIALIST

We would like to give thanks for a wonderful meal, being together with family, and this overload of RPGs scheduled to come out in the last few months of this year.

Late August
The end of August will see Xenosaga Episode III, Disgaea 2, and Enchanted Arms. Though XSIII may not be exactly what gamers had once hoped it would be, it will hopefully bring the saga to a nice, complete end. Nippon Ichi brings us yet another tactical RPG in Disgaea 2. This sequel to the 2003 hit is said to follow closely in the footsteps of the original. The Xbox 360 finally gets another RPG in Enchanted Arms. Though not getting a ton of publicity, this title should breathe some much needed life in the 360's RPG genre.

September
September will offer up such games as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team & PMD: Blue Rescue Team, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, Baten Kaitos Origins, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, and Harvest Moon DS. Portable gamers rejoice, we have lift off. With the exception of sequels, Baten Kaitos Origins and Valkyrie Profile 2, all of the releases for this month are the DS or Game Boy Advance. Technically, all of the games I've listed for this month are sequels or part of a series, so fans should enjoy the new takes on these older series.

October
In October we should see Phantasy Star Universe, Tales of the Abyss, Summon Night: Sword Craft Story 2, Contact, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, .hack//G.U. Vol. 1//Rebirth, and Children of Mana. What a month and a diverse one at that. A new Tales game, the return of .hack, a close follow up to August's Summon Night, another SMT game, a new Mana title, and an online hybrid Phantasy Star game. This might not be all of the RPGs that come out this month, and some might get dropped, but right now we are on track for quite an October.

November
Finally, November will be the month of Final Fantasy games with the launch of Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy V Advance, and Final Fantasy III for the DS. With Final Fantasy XII launching on the last day of October, I wouldn't expect it in stores until November, so I will count it as such. So we are looking at three Final Fantasy titles within a fifteen day span. This month is highly suspected to include the Nintendo Wii launch which will also herald in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube and Wii.

How does anyone have time for all of these? I know I don't, so a lot of these new titles will be frozen on my shelves while I plow through the others as fast as I can. How many of these titles are going to fall by the wayside? Why have we had to wait all year for these? It's not like this year has been dead as far as RPG releases go. We've seen Wild Arms 4, Grandia III, and Kingdom Hearts just to name a few, but we've also had a good bit of lag between major releases in the summer. A few minor titles of trickled in, but nothing the likes of what this winter is going to see.
