Market Milking: Remakes, Gaidens, and Sequels! Oh, No? Or Yeah? Jared Prewitt

Editorial Excerpt:"RPGs fulfill many gamers with gratifying storylines and grueling side quests. The success of the genre has expanded into a variety of other fields, such as next generation platforms. However, the constant creation of new tales that excite many fans, ultimately take a toll on gamers' wallets."

For the Love of Sentient Pots! Sam "Nyx" Marchello

Editorial Excerpt:

"Have you ever walked into your local video game store and seen a game that had the most unappealing box art? So unappealing that you questioned who in their right mind would buy such a game? Well, what happens when you get one of those games as a gift from someone who perhaps doesn't know your taste that well?"

From the Editor's Desk

So my life is going pretty well. I'm slowly trudging through my thesis paper. I'm comparing Fight Club and Revolutionary Road to Conan the Barbarian. That's a rather loose take on my topic, but I'm too lazy to go into the fine details. I actually have some gaming news for once. I picked up Dead Space and Resistance 2 over the weekend and am loving them both. I'm waiting on Valkyria Chronicles simply because I don't have the cash and would like to finish FE: Radiant Dawn before I pick up another time consuming SRPG. Beyond that though, things are rather dull in Stew land. I can't complain really, I like it that way.

We have a little bit of staff and a little bit of fan to read this week. Firstly Mr. Jared Prewitt returns with a nice look at the benefits and consequences of milking RPG franchises. Meanwhile Nyx muses about why she enjoys what some might consider the lackluster Magical Starsign. Read em, respond to em, and write in folks! We love your participation. Have a good week everyone!
